1. Wear a Name Tag
Remembering names can be difficult – especially when meeting several people at once. Wearing your name tag will help others remember who you are and the name of your business. Not to mention, it makes for a much less awkward meet-up at the next event!
2. Prepare an Elevator Pitch
Promoting you and your business is the name of the game, but doing so concisely is important. Strategizing a quick elevator pitch with your business description is crucial to promoting your organization. Keep notes on your phone or even rehearse at home!
3. Ask Questions and Listen
Networking isn’t just about telling as many people as you can about who you are and what you do. Asking questions and listening to others builds trust and will make for a more valuable relationship in the long term. It’s also an efficient way for you to gather information on your fellow members, figure out their needs and how you can help.
4. Bring Business Cards
Handing out business cards and accepting others is a great way to make a lasting impression and ensure you can follow up with the contacts you’ve made. Scheduling an informal follow up meeting suggests that they made a good impression and you would like to learn more about them and their business.
5. Stay in Touch
Social media is always a good way to support your fellow members and business owners. Give your new contacts a follow, join discussions and stay up to date with their business ‘happenings’. They may return the favor!
6. Relax!
Networking doesn’t have to be all business. Relax, be yourself and don’t be afraid to discuss personal interests. Authenticity makes you more interesting and relatable – cementing a memorable impression.
